So, you’ve taken the leap and signed the contract—congratulations! A stunning new Shark Coatings floor is on the way. But before our team arrives to transform your space, there are a few things to prepare for, to ensure the process goes smoothly. Let’s break it down.

Do I Need to Move Everything, or Will You Handle That?
The short answer: Yes, everything needs to be moved out of your garage before the installation day. While we focus on giving you the best floor possible, here are a few tips to make clearing out your space stress-free:
Take Control of Your Timeline
You have input on your installation date! If you feel a week is enough time to clear your space, great. If you need longer to sort through things, that’s okay too. Share your timeline goals with your design consultant, so we can schedule an installation date that works best for you.
Rent a Moving Truck
Renting a small moving truck is a cost-effective option for holding your items temporarily. If you need help with the heavy lifting, many people hire day laborers to assist.
Consider a Storage Pod
Storage pods are an excellent choice if you want flexibility and extra time to sort through your belongings. Take this opportunity to declutter! Use the time to organize, donate, or toss out items you no longer need. Bonus: With fewer items to put back, it’ll be easier to keep your new floor looking amazing.
Shelves and Wall-Mounted Items
Items mounted to walls and off the floor, such as shelves or cabinets, can remain in place. However, please note that while our team will blow off surfaces, dust from the installation process may still settle on them. We recommend removing any valuables from the shelves before the installation begins.
What About Permanent Features Like Water Heaters or Water Softeners?
The exception to the “everything must go” rule is permanent fixtures like water heaters, HVAC systems and water softeners. These can stay put! Our team is trained to skillfully work around these features without issue.
How Long Until I Can Use My Floor?
Once your new Shark Coatings floor is installed, it’s time for the curing process. Here’s how long you’ll need to wait:
- 8-12 Hours to walk on your floor.
- 24 Hours to drive on it.
Keep in mind that extreme weather conditions, such as heavy humidity, rain, or extreme temperatures, can affect curing times. Your Shark Coatings design consultant will guide you based on your specific situation to ensure the best results.
